On Your Mark, Get Set, Go....
It's time to start that holiday shopping. GAAARRRR!
Oh and in case you're not freaking out yet, there's less than four weeks to do it in. :)
I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving. My husband was home on vacation from the 16th on, the 16th being his birthday.
I spent the whole day of his birthday getting ready. I made a grocery store run, baked two cakes, wrapped presents and cooked chicken cordon bleu. This was in addition to my usual daily chores.
Maybe I'm a sucker to do all this considering what I got for my February birthday. For those who don't remember or didn't read the post, it was the silent treatment. My birthday is the day after Valentine's Day and the argument started then so I actually got that same present for both occasions! Don't envy me now.
But now back to our regularly scheduled blog.
Anyway, the husband was on vacation and so was number two daughter. During the few times I wasn't too busy to blog, getting to the computer was like finding a nickel slot machine in Vegas after the senior citizen's tour has rolled in. There was a high chance of pulling back a bloody stump.
I should have written down what I wanted to talk about on paper, because I lost much of it. It couldn't have been too horribly important in that case though.
We had a lovely Thanksgiving. Every year I mess up one dish. It's my own little tradition, I guess.
This year it was the pie crust. I actually don't make a very good pie crust anyway, but leaving out the salt guaranteed it this year. I should have gone with the Mrs. Smith's pies, but oh no, I wanted to give my family the "pleasure" of homemade. It's only the best for MY family. LOL
I gained two and a half pounds. Who else wants to volunteer how much they gained? And if you lost weight, just shut your darn mouth! :)
I thought it would be incredibly hard to get back in a routine today, but am actually enjoying it. I like a routine. It calms me.
Does this mean I'm just an overgrown toddler?
Now quit reading this blog and start shopping!

That sound you hear is my heels clicking together in mid-air as I trot off 2 boys to school. "GIVE ME DAT OLD ROUTINE!" she warbles!
I am about done with the shopping. Yes, I do it from summer on to budget it better. I buy tons of stuff at Costco. The teachers/therapists get their gifts on Thanksgiving - it's a sneaky way to get your gift top attention, among other things.
We don't give the children too much. They get too much from relatives.
I would've given your husband bupkiss, which is NOTHING in Yiddish. A man who gives his wife the cold shoulder over VDay AND her birthday is skating on the skinny ice known as d-i-v-o-r-s-e, in my book. Nothing you could have done deserved that treatment, but I may go back and do some research on your blog.
Okay, off to decorate some more.
And sorry about your pie!
I will fess up on the weight gain. I probably put on a couple of pounds. You should see how huge I am getting. I need to take a picture. I ate extra this year, you know for me and the baby. LOL :)
pie crust is evil when you have to make it homemade, frozen shells all the way baby!!
Shopping! YEah! I am a happy camper this time of year. I get to spend spend spend and there is nothing my husband can do about it. Bwahahahahahah! I got so excited and ambitious this year I am almost done....and it isn't even December!!!
Your hubby is spoiled. So is mine. But he better do good by me come Feb when I turn the big 3-0. We'll see what happens.
Who give the birthday girl the silent treatment? Boo!
i never gain weight when we have tgiving at the inlaws' because my mil's food is toxic. kidding, but it is overcooked and never has more than thimbleful of oil.
actually, tgiving is a slim holiday for vegetarians because you basically have a bunch of vegetables to eat.
i am almost done with shopping. THANK GOD.
hubby should not give you the silent treatment!
the bloody stump comment reminded me of whole foods. i often feel lucky to get out of there alive :)
Oh, and there is no shame in using a storebrought graham cracker crust ;) i'll stop talking now.
Mscellania - We're cutting down on the kids too, because the relatives spoil them.
Beadinggal - It is frozen next year. I give up. I can't wait to see a pic.
Ginger's Mom - You're only 29? I'm envious.
Bearette - I did buy a graham cracker crust for the chocolate cream and that was the most popular pie!
Routine is the only way I make it through life. That and variety. But was I ever glad to be back home!
Alright, I'll go shop! Today was the day I discovered my paypal accounts were twisted into a nasty mess--but their customer service folks are SO POLITE!!
f
Ok I fess up I had a Mrs. Smith's deep dish peach pie and it was the best darn pie ever and yes I ate most of it topped with extra creamy cool whip.
Shopping ugh I have to do birthday shopping first for my son he turns 9 on Wednesday.
Somehow I knew you were a chocolate cream pie kind of gal.
I'm almost done with my shopping. And this is the first year in many that I didn't step foot into any store for the whole Thanksgiving weekend. Yay me!
Boo to the silent treatment on two consecutive holidays. He must be punished! (I'm guessing he's already heard about it though)
what is a chocolate cream pie? it sounds utterly divine!
am having a little freak out at Christmas and getting ready for it myself, so don't worry you're not the only one.
I should give you the crust recipe my mom and I use. It's delish. The trick is remembering to add all the ingredients. :)
I don't weigh myself, so I go on waistband tightness alone. From the feel of things, I probably gained a pound or two!
Routine is good. I get out-of-sorts when mine is changed.
Thank God, you're blogging again! How did our family get anyone as funny and imaginative as you.
mOM
You mean... I wasn't supposed to start shopping yet? Shoot, I'm done!!! And I didn't gain any weight... :-P
4 weeks!?
You've just burst my bubble Lady!
FYI returning the favor ie silent treatment is a big wake up call. I had to drive home the point one year when I was informed that "I was not his mother" and he did not make sure he took our boys shopping for mothers day. You should have seen his face when Fathers Day came around and there was no breakfast in bed and no goodies. I did not have to say a word. Hehehehehehehe
Shhhh....I like to think of myself as 22 again...and again...and again...
I am NOT going shopping. Those Wal-Farts are rich enough....
I don't know how you Americans deal with this whole Thanksgiving thing a month before Christmas - do you treat it as a rehearsal or what? We're gearing up now for Xmas and New year and our (YAY) major summer holidays, which makes the whole Xmas drama worthwhile.
I have about five things already bought, and a plan of attack for the rest... My husband's birthday is one week before Christmas, which is always a bit tricky to manage...but we'll all get there in the end, won't we?!
becx
ps - thanks for heading to tonypark.blogspot.com last week, I know he was chuffed to get the extra visitors way out there in Kruger National Park!
If you cook while steaming with fever you will take off a couple of pounds, easy.
-J.
SL - Good customer service makes it all better, most of the time. :P
Lori - That sounds delicious. My husband is a whipped cream snob but I LOVE Cool Whip.
Roxanne - Almost done? Congrats!
Velcro - It's chocolate pudding in a pie shell. I cheated and cooked up some Jello chocolate pudding. No one seemed to notice.
Liz - I would love that recipe. Hint hint.
Paula - I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Anonymous/Mom - Thanks.
Techie - You're done too? Wow.
Ms. L. - I'm always glad to be of service.
Mad Rabbit - You are wily.
Ginger's Mom - If only I could LOOK 22, again and again and again.
Old Hoss - You could always go to K-Fart instead!
Bec - It's not a rehearsal for me. We're having something easy to make on Christmas.
Joke - I can't be mad at you for losing weight because you felt so crappy!
